Art History Resources
Curated by Professor Chris Witcombe, it has the best organized gateway toart history sites on the internet tbh. His directory is full of useful andregularly updated links, listing everything from pre-historic art, travelingthrough the whole world and into modern times, the site lists everything inthe most detailed sub-categories, making delving into a topic and gaining alot of information on it before moving on to the next topic a very simpleprocess. There are very few aspects of art history that cannot be found witha few clicks. The look of the website is not appealing to the eyes, but Iguess that’s why he’s a professor and not a graphic designer. It’s a reallygood site. A+ would recommend.
World Wide Arts Resources
The art history index of famous artists leads to imagery and indepthinformation such as biographies to over 22,000 artists. Over 200,000images from museums are directly accessible via this wealth of art historicalinformation database. Direct links to images in museum collections, links toin-depth art news, general links as well as a collection of search engineresults have been compiled for over 22,000 artists.
Web Gallery of Art
The Web Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database ofEuropean fine arts from 11th to 19th centuries! It’s kind of like a virtualmuseum, the collection is a searchable database supplemented by aglossary containing articles on art terms, relevant historical events, personages, cities, museums and churches.
Artcyclopedia
The Artcyclopedia editors have compiled a comprehensive index of everyartist represented at hundreds of museum sites, image archives, and otheronline resources. Artcyclopedia only provides references to sites on theweb where artists’ works can be viewed online and the vast majority of theartists in their database specialise in painting and sculpture. They have asearchable index of over 1200 arts sites, and offer more than 32,000 linksto an estimated 100,000 works by 7,500 renowned artists. A great resourcefor researching particular artists!!

in this post i am going to teach you:
~ how to identify different brushes
~ what each brush is used for
~ how to use your brushes
~ how to wash & take care of your brushes
~ various tips & tricks that have to do w/ the tools of the trade!
so, let’s get started:while all of the brushes below are brushes that are included in the 36pc set mentioned above, each brush is linked to a single brush being sold online so that you can see what they typically look like & purchase a singular brush if you do not want to purchase a set. if any of the links don’t work, please don’t hesitate to let me know so i can change the link. also- while there are 36 different brushes in the kit, there are not 36 listed below. this is because the BH Cosmetics Set has many different brushes of the same kind (i.e. multiple smudger brushes, multiple liner brushes..), the only differences being that some are shorter, some are longer, some are more angled, etc. they all have the same purpose, so i didn’t see a point in listing the same purpose 5 times. :o)
B R U S H E S //eyebrow brush// this type of brush is used to define & fill in your eyebrows with product. the one shown is double-ended, so it includes an eyebrow brush & a spoolie brush. this kit includes both, but as separate brushes.
spoolie brush// this is used for blending, combing, & shaping your eyebrows. some people like to use this brush to apply mascara instead of the mascara wand that typically comes with mascara, so it can have 2 purposes.
eyeliner brush// in addition to the other eyeliner brushes listed below, this kit also includes a rounded liner brush, a bent liner brush, & a small angled liner brush. all liner brushes can be used with powder, liquid, cream, or gel, so it’s easy for you to achieve the liner look you want with just a flick of the wrist.
angled liner brush// this is used to apply powder, liquid, cream, or gel eyeliner. it can also be used to apply brow products, mascara, or lipstick.
small rounded liner brush// otherwise known as a precision eyeliner brush, this has the same purpose as other eyeliner brushes but can make more clean cut lines (for that sharp wing you were going for!)
flat liner brush// this brush can have a multitude of purposes. most people use it to apply eyeliner, but it can also be used to apply mascara & even lipstick! many brushes are multi-functional.
smudger brush// this is used for applying & smudging powder, pencil, & gel eyeliner. this set includes 5 smudger brushes, including a small smudger brush & a round angled smudger brush.
lip brush// this brush makes it easy to apply lip color without accidentally overlining your lips or missing any spots.
small concealer brush// this kit includes both a regular size concealer brush & a smaller concealer brush to help reach the redness in the corners of your nose & smaller blemishes all over the face.
eyeshadow brush// includes a short shadow brush & a large shadow brush, as well as a round flat shadow brush & a regular flat shadow brush, as well as a crease brush. these brushes are used to apply eyeshadows & pigments to your eyelid (after they’re primed, of course).
eyeshadow sponge brush// this brush is extremely similar to a regular eyeshadow brush but instead of having bristles, it has an oval-shaped sponge on the end. it’s easier to work with when you’re attempting to apply more difficult products, like pigments & heavy pearly textured shadows, & helps to apply these products more evenly.
angled shadow brush// this is used for powder eyeshadow, particularly the crease. it can also be used to smudge your contour down the sides of your nose if you decide to go that route.
blending brush// this is used to set concealer, matte-ify lipstick & blend our eyeshadow where the lines may be too harsh.
angled blending brush// this is great for any type of product: liquid, cream, or powder, & is angled for more precise application.
foundation brush// this brush is thicker & fuller than other brushes in order to evenly apply liquid & cream foundation. some people use these brushes to apply concealer if they have to apply it to larger areas on their face.
small blush brush// if you’re trying to apply & blend blush lightly over your face & in smaller increments, this brush is great!
large angled blush brush// this brush is good for blush application on the apples of your cheeks. it can also be used to remove excess powder from your face & remove eyeshadow fallot!
highlight & contour brush// this is used to contour under the cheekbones, around the temples, & jawline, or to highlight your cheekbones. it can also be used to apply blush!
duo fiber stippling brush// this brush is perfect for blending & buffing your makeup whether it’s cream, powder, or liquid! stippling brushes are typically used to pat, or “stipple” foundation all over the face, but it can have a multitude of other uses as well.
powder brush// this is used to evenly apply loose powder or setting powder all over the face to matte-ify your look & to help set the makeup below.
fan brush// good for removing eyeshadow fallout or applying setting powder all over your face. it can also whisk away any excess powder on your face. this kit includes both a small & large fan brush.
B R U S H C A R E //~ invest in a good brush cleaner, brush soap, or find a home remedy that works for you! many people find success in using organic dish soap mixed w/ water or shampoo & it works fine! i like to use cetaphil cleanser on my brushes, because it’s what i use to wash my face & i know my skin won’t react to it.
~ brushes should be deep cleaned at least once a week either with a brush shampoo or a deep strength brush cleaner.
~ try to spot clean your brushes after each use, it helps to remove bacteria & keep them fresh & ready for use. you wouldn’t want to put a dirty brush all over your clean face, would you?
~ when cleaning your brushes, avoid getting water above the metal part of the brush. you don’t want water to get into the glue of the brush because it could cause the bristles to become loose & cause the brush to shed.
~ after applying water & your brush soap or shampoo to the bristles, massage the brush into the palm of your hand to work the cleaner into the bristles. then, squeeze the bristles from the base to get out any excess cleaner or product that’s left.
~ after cleaning your brushes, lay them out to dry either flat or so that the bristles are closest to the floor. do not place them brush-side-up while drying because this will allow water to get into the brush glue.
M I S C. T I P S & T R I C K S~ opt for brushes with shorter handles. this allows for more precise application because you can get closer to your face!
~ synthetic brushes work best for things like foundation, concealer, & lipstick because synthetics work well with liquid or cream products.
~ the ferrule (what connect the bristles to the handle of the brush, which is usually either metal or plastic) should be able to handle large amounts of pressure. when buying a brush, try to apply pressure to this area with your index finger. if it moves, dents, or changes shape, skip this brush & try a different brand.
~ the softer the brush, the better! if it doesn’t feel good when you rub the brush on the inside of the wrist, it’s definitely not going to feel good on your face. scratchy, stiff, or itchy brushes also make your makeup appear blotchy & uneven, so give them a miss.
~ when buying a new brush, try pulling a few bristles out. shedding is normally for new brushes but if it sheds more than a few bristles or continually sheds over time, toss it & find a better made brush.
hope this helped & thanks for reading!
Good Video Game Music Masterpost
Bastion: God DAMN this games music is amazing. The songs are reallyatmospheric in my opinion and the overall tone of the songs fits the gamesworld. Not to mention, THERE’S FUCKING SINGING HERE??? LIKEWHAT??? AND ITS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. ALSO FEEL FREE TOCHECK OUT TRANSISTOR’S SOUNDTRACK IT’S ALSO GOOD
Favorite Songs: Build That Wall, Slinger’s Song
Gunpoint: This games music is great. If you do want to listen to this, then Ihope you like jazz motherfucker. The music also fits with the game, as it feelsvery noir-esque. Not to mention that for most songs, there’s actually 2 versions(one feels more electric than the other, check out the crosslink version of asong and compare it to the normal version to understand what I mean). Andthe 2 versions only exist because of a gameplay mechanic that doesn’t evenhave anything to do with guns, just like most of this game. You will have to getthe full soundtrack to get all the songs though (if you buy this on steam there is2 soundtracks, one with all the music in-game and one for extra music). Thisost has the smartest pun in my opinion though. Play the game and then searchup the meaning of defenestrate.
Favorite Songs: Five Floor Goodbye, Main Theme (Melancholia)
Crypt of the Necrodancer: Alright, right off the bat we got a title with “Dance”in it, so you know this is gonna be good. Now for those of you that clicked onthe link, you may notice the game has 99 god damn tracks. You know why? It’sbecause there’s 3 DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME MUSIC. METAL?WE GOT THAT SHIT (not sure if songs 1, 25, and 28 are in the steam ostthough). ELECTRONIC MUSIC IN GENERAL? GOT THAT. LIKE THIS? WEGOT THIS. OH AND DID I MENTION YOU CAN PLAY THIS GAME TO YOUROWN SONG? BECAUSE YOU CAN. GO ON KILL SKELETONS LISTENING TOFUCKING NUMA NUMA DO IT. ALSO ALMOST ALL THE SONGS HAVE PUNSIN THE TITLE
Favorite Songs: Deep Sea Bass (A_Rival Remix), The Wight to Remain(Danny B’s version)
Epic Battle Fantasy 4: This game’s music has a lot going for it. Like right fromthe get-go we have some really calming tunes (click on the playlist to see whatI mean). That shit’s so calm I actually put it on for my little sister so she couldgo to sleep. BUT THEN ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE SPECTRUM WEHAVE UNDER MY SKIN (not in the playlist, just search it up) WHICH JUSTMAKES YOU FEEL LIKE FIGHTING EVERYONE WITH EVERYTHING YOUHAVE. AND DID I MENTION THERE’S AN EIGHT MINUTE LONG SONG?THERE IS. FALLEN BLOOD. A BIT REPETITIVE BUT STILL GOOD AS FUCK.
Favorite Songs: Estavius (Piano Version), Van al Tag (extended)
Electronic Super Joy: There isn’t much to say about this game for mostpeople. It’s praises have already been said. SO LEMME TELL YOUSOMETHING ABOUT THIS GAME. BACK IN THE DAY WHEN I WAS STILL AWEE LIL SHIT I USED TO LIKE THIS GAME CALLED MUSIC IN MOTION.AND THE MUSIC HERE WAS GOD DAMN AMAZING TO ME BECAUSE INEVER HEARD OF THIS KINDA MUSIC. AND THERE WAS THIS ONE SONGTHAT STUCK WITH ME AND I FORGOT ABOUT THIS GAME SO I NEVERNEW WHERE IT CAME FROM. IT’S CALLED HEAVEN RD. 2. SO I WAS JUSTLISTENING TO THE OST FOR THIS GAME AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I COMEACROSS THIS. NOW I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT THE SONG WAS CALLEDBECAUSE I ONLY PLAYED THE GAME BUT WHEN THAT ONE PART CAMEON. THAT ONE FUCKING PART. I WAS SO FUCKING HAPPY LIKE “HOLYSHIT THIS IS THE THINGGGG”.
Favorite Songs: Heaven Rd. 3, VEE
Cave Story +: This game’s music is really good, especially if you like chiptune.Like Epic Battle Fantasy, this game’s music can be either relaxed or hyped. Also, for everyone who has heard Running Hell in-game because you aretrying to get the best ending, I salute you.
Favorite Songs: Running Hell (Curly’s Theme), Plantation/Main theme
Risk of Rain: This soundtrack will be very “hit-or-miss” with most people.Chances are that at least one song here will be to your liking, and another youmay hate at first. I find that liking this game’s OST is more of an acquired tastethat you gt while playing the game. Also, It gets bonus points because all of thesong names have something to do with water/precipitation, whether its alocation or a term.
Favorite Songs: Coalescence, 25.3°N 91.7°E (yes that’s the name of a song.it’s also the supposed to be the wettest point on earth, go figure)
Go ahead and add feel free to add your own favorite video game music.
EDIT: forgot to add the Risk of Rain OST and my favorite songs for it.
EDIT NUMBER 2: the links to my favorite songs are here, thanks to aofu forthe links! (i actually just copy/pasted this from their blog with their permission)
Build that Wall (Bastion)
Slinger’s Song (Bastion)
Five Floor Goodbye (Gunpoint)

The Wight to Remain (Crypt of the Necrodancer)
Estavius (Epic Battle Fantasy IV)
Van al Tag (Epic Battle Fantasy IV)
VEE (Electronic Super Joy)
Heaven Rd. 3 (Electronic Super Joy)
Running Hell (Cave Story +)
Plantation: Main Theme (Cave Story +)
Coalescence (Risk of Rain)

when i was in year 11 (my sophomore year of high school), i completelybottomed out. i won’t go into details but i was basically homeless for a while, struggled with massive anxiety and my motivation was just kaput - i’d beenaiming for cambridge university before this point in time and it’s safe to saymy gcse grades did not match up with this goal. i got mostly c’s and b’s withone a in art, and my self-confidence was shot.
my grades never recovered to where they were before, i’ve only started totruly study in these last few months which was already too late for my artexam results which sadly are very low and might even impact my chancesof getting into my dream uni unless i turn it around…luckily, i plan to -having made the leap from a c grade at gcse english to a high-end a at aslevel, i’m more than confident that i can use the skills i’ve learnt this year tomake my final grades for next year into something that’ll get me a place onmy dream course
and here is what i recommend!
all the best and lots of love x

-LISTEN TO THE TEACHER WHEN THEY EXPLAIN ASSIGNMENTS. Andwrite important things down. No, you won’t remember it later.
-Ask for help. Most if not all teachers will be more than willing to give youassistance.
-Take advantage of your school’s resources. Seriously. They’re there for areason.
-Do your best to get decent amounts of sleep- like, if you are done with all yourschoolwork, go to bed before 4am instead of staying up watching tv shows.
-If you can’t get enough sleep, bring coffee or tea to school. No one will judgeyou, i promise, and its better than falling asleep throughout the day.
-YOU GOT THIS. GO FORTH AND CONQUER!!!

I’ve always found memorisingtext quite difficult and also I have to added difficulty of not being greatat communication. I thought I would share what I have learnt aboutmemorising sections of test with you! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
1. Believe you can do it! One thing that can always hold you back is thecrushing thought of the numerous words and paragraphs that you have tolearn. If you believe anything is possible- well at least most things.
2. Make sure you know about the subject area and you have properly readthrough all the information related to whatever text is about. If you are trying tomemorise a whole essay or just a large about of writing then actively learnabout the subject as well as just memorising and take note of all the key points. For example, my paragraphs are all about myself (in french) I know what mostof the points are such as what my family is like and clothes that I’ve bought andthis makes it easier to remember the french.
3. Write it out neatly and make sure everything is grammatically correct. As I’mspeaking I don’t really need to memorise the punctuation but if you are writingit out you definitely will need to.
4. Either on a print out or written copy, mark down beside the paragraphs theparagraph number and number of sentences. This will help you remember theamount of text you have written out and give you an idea of the work you needto do.
5. Find a little quiet place to study in. This is so you can read aloud your writingwhen doing this you could just walk around the room to help keep you able toconcentrate. Read through the whole thing then start to memorise theindividual sentences one by one. Memorising a whole paragraph could take awhile so to be most efficient do this when you are most alert and motivatedduring the day and in the quietest place you can find (or wherever youpersonally find best to work in- background noise can be focusing for some).
6. Keep vocalising the speech until you think you can do it without the copy ofthe text. When you can do it repeatedly a couple times from memory correctlyreward yourself and have a break for a few hours.
7. Go back to the essay, read it aloud whilst walking and looking at the copyand then try to memorise it again.
8. Once confident, note down the words you struggle to remember at thebottom of your page and remember these specifically.
9. Also, note down just the words at the start each sentence in each individualparagraph and the number of sentences in that paragraph.
Examples:
Paragraph 1. Bonjour, Je, J’ai, C’est, Je, J’ai, Quand, Je, Je (9)
Paragraph 2. Dans, J’ai, Elle, Elle, Quelquefois, Ma, Je, Aussi, C’est, Mon (10)
10. Now you can use the starts of the sentences you have noted down to see ifyou can remember the whole sentences of each paragraph. If you get stuck onanything just go back and check from your full copy.
11. Now memorise the bottom of the sheet of paper with the first few words ofthe essay and how many sentences are in each paragraph. This should onlytake 10-15 minutes at the most.
Using the method I have learnt may seem like it will take forever but it reallydoes help and means you can get it over and done with in a couple of hoursinstead of taking multiple days. Note: I made the header thing myself using aspeech bubble creator and a cute pixel image I edited a little (I can’t find theoriginal maker of the image though so sorry about that). I hope this helped andhave a great day! ♥‿♥

How to Help a Loved One Who is Suicidal: a Masterpost
Okay friends, so I’ve been dealing with a lot recently - not only my own suicidalthoughts, but also being a friend to someone who is actively suicidal. Here iswhat I have learned after talking to the crisis line, through my own experiences, and speaking to a therapist about the situation:
When a loved one expresses suicidal ideation:
- Do not panic. Assess the situation. As long as they are willing to talk, listen. However hard it may be, do not shut the person down or dismissthem in any way or express your panic. This person needs to know thatthey can come to you to talk. Whatever you do, do not alienate them.Validate their feelings. What your loved one needs in this situation morethan anything is to feel validated and that they are not alone. If you feelthat the situation is urgent please see #4.
- Offer support. Not only as someone who will listen without harshreactions or judgement, but offer professional help.
- Google behavioral support resources in your area. You will find thatmany places will do an intake for free, some offer 24/7 support. (Obviously this depends on your location. If anyone would like to addsources for their locations, please do so.)
- Know that 911 is always an option. If the person has expressed thatthey have a plan but refuses help, this is your last option. Calling 911and giving the person’s name, phone number, and address with asmany details as possible ensures that you will receive help quickly. Thepolice are more likely to respond quickly and take you more seriously ifyou express that your loved one has a timetable and a plan.
- Let other trustworthy loved ones know. It is likely that your friend hasonly reached out to you. However you are very likely not to be the onlyone who is concerned. It is incredibly important and crucial to the safetyof your loved one that you make other (trustworthy) people in their lifeaware of the situation. This is not a betrayal on your part. This is animportant step to ensure the safety of someone that you care about. Thethreat of suicide is serious, and support is crucial. You cannot beeverything to one person and one person cannot rely on a single humanfor help.
- Take care of yourself. Know your limits. Being a friend to someonewho is suicidal is not only brave but it is emotionally taxing. Remember:Ultimately, it is their decision to get help and you can only do so much.Texting “help” to 741-741 will hook you up with a trained counselor ifyou need to speak with someone. Self-care is often overlooked and iscrucial to your own well-being. You cannot be there for someone if youare unwell yourself.

when i was in year 11 (my sophomore year of high school), i completelybottomed out. i won’t go into details but i was basically homeless for a while, struggled with massive anxiety and my motivation was just kaput - i’d beenaiming for cambridge university before this point in time and it’s safe to saymy gcse grades did not match up with this goal. i got mostly c’s and b’s withone a in art, and my self-confidence was shot.
my grades never recovered to where they were before, i’ve only started totruly study in these last few months which was already too late for my artexam results which sadly are very low and might even impact my chancesof getting into my dream uni unless i turn it around…luckily, i plan to -having made the leap from a c grade at gcse english to a high-end a at aslevel, i’m more than confident that i can use the skills i’ve learnt this year tomake my final grades for next year into something that’ll get me a place onmy dream course
and here is what i recommend!
- at the start of the new term, make sure you have everything youcould possibly need and more, i’m talking a decent notebook foreach subject you’re taking, a device that’ll let you type updocuments, a desk/study-space available for everyday use, pensthat are good to write with, sticky notes, flashcards andhighlighters (plus any course textbooks)
- get a damn bullet journal and use it! this things changed myfricking life, i have never been more organised
- plan your time. if you’re a procrastinator, print off a weekly ormonthly planner (here are some good ones) and schedule exactlywhen all your extra curricular activities are, when you eat, whenyou sleep, when you’re at work, etc. colour code if you want, make sure any blank spaces are obvious and you can assignthese blank spots times to study!
- start your homework/studying as soon as you get home. it getsharder for every minute you spend flopped on the sofa. get in, fixyourself a snack and drink, go to your study space and get yourdarn homework out
- if you don’t understand something, ask and ask and ask until youknow it for sure! the teacher is there to teach, the only one who’slosing out from not nagging for answers is you!
- take messy notes at school, then come home and rewritethem/type them up in a format you can understand that’s neat andcan be filed - this will help cement your memories of the subject
- get. a. study. buddy. find them in this community if you must, there’s directories everywhere i look (see here) and get them tohelp you, study with you, interact with you on a purelyeducational basis.
- getting bored? wash your face and go drink some water, put somehandcream on or file your nails, then carry on until you’re at apoint where you can stop for the day and not feel guilty that youdidn’t get everything done
- PRACTICE TESTS ARE YOUR GOD. find the mark schemes andpast papers online (ocr / edexcel / aqa) and go to frickin town
- write flash cards, learn them, bin them, rewrite them, learn again, repeat this process. constantly be creating the memory of writingit out, don’t just learn the sentence on the page. find new ways torewrite what you mean.
- listen to white noise, asmr, or nature sounds when you study -not music. i know it psychs you up, but you listen to the musicmore than the actual work.
- make revision posters, stick them in inconvenient places andmove them around all the time. don’t get used to them in the sameplace, put them under the loo seat lid, put them above your bed atnight, put them on the fridge, on the washing machine door, onyour mirror, EVERYWHERE.
- if your school offers after-school revision sessions, attend them.trust me. i didn’t and i hate myself for it.
- holidays are a great time to unwind but don’t just stop doing workaltogether, engage in little projects you really enjoy so you don’tget adjusted to slobbing around doing nothing
all the best and lots of love x

10. My Own Tips For School-Get a cheap notebook/planner and use it to organize yourself. Make lists oftasks, things to remember, etc. Seriously, i started doing this towards the endof junior year and it helped me so much.

For the majority of us, the new school year means a tonstress. This can cause acne and I know for myself, it tooka while to find tricks that really helped my skin so Iwanted to share some of them with you under the cut.
- keep hair out of your face as much as possible. ifyou’re not comfortable having your hair up at school,or if you have shorter hair, try pinning it back withbobby pins.
- if you can’t keep your hair out of your face, keep itclean so there isn’t as much oil touching yourforehead or sides of your face.
- try to not touch your face!
- if you insist on wearing coverage, try a lighterformula foundation or bb cream so your pores don’tget clogged. it’s more difficult for your skin toclear when you have something covering your face for8+ hours. you could also use a tinted moisturizer.
- remove your makeup as soon as you can. i suggestclean and clear makeup dissolving facial cleansingwipes.
- drink water. i know everyone says this but waterhelps clear your skin faster and makes your feelbetter overall. i try to have a bottle of waterbefore class, take one with me during the day, drinkone when i get home and another with dinner.
- take some time to yourself and relax. have a fewmoments of not thinking about exams and studying. ifit helps you, you can also take some of this time forseeing what is stressing you out, and find the bestway to deal with it.
- i am one of the people that had nighmare acne for thelongest time. i could never find a product that wouldwork for more than a month or so. i now use a fewproducts from the body shop’s tea tree line.specifically i use the squeaky clean scrub ($15) andthe skin clearing facial wash ($13). I’ve had thesame bottle of facial wash for about 4 months andhave used about a third of the 60ml bottle. you canfind discounts for this product at ulta, orsupersized bottles on the body shop’s website.
- while i do HIGHLY suggest the magical tea tree oilproducts, if you have more sensitive skin you canalso use products containing aloe! it’s much moregentle and still helps soothe and clear skin.
- use warm water (not hot!) to wash your face, and patdry your face when you’re done. this avoidsirritation and doesn’t remove as many good oils fromyour skin.
- do not mess with any acne. if you do not mess with itand wash your face regularly, the spot will fadequicker and be a lot less likely to leave any type ofscar.
- coconut oil, vitamin e oil and aloe vera all helpwith the fading of scars. just remember that it willtake time and you can’t fade a scar in a week.
- do not put any homemade masks on your face unless youknow what you’re doing. lemon or sugar scrubs canmake skin very irritated and dry.
- wash your sheets and pillow cases!! it’ll make yourskin happy and everyone loves fresh sheets.
- if you wear glasses or are on the phone a lot, regularly clean them. a lot of dirt and oils canbuild up.
- for more specific info on acne in a certain area, check this acne face map and this acne chart

this is just some stuff i do that makes life a teensy bit easier for me; i hope theyhelp you, too!
- when using post-it/sticky notes that you want to last longer thana day, place them in layers. use 2-3 sticky notes whenever you wantsomething to last. it makes the “page” stiffer so it won’t bend as much, won’t fall off as easily, and when the glue wears off, you can peel off theback note and get fresh glue to stick it again from the notes on top of it.face it, you get them in packs of 100 for less than a buck, and have youever even finished a notepad before losing it? you’re not wasting muchby using extra.
- if you have trouble getting out the door in the morning or losingthings you need on a daily basis, keep a “constants” box. anythingyou need pretty whenever you go out goes in it. stuff like wallets, keys, umbrella, etc. as soon as you get home, dump all of your “constants” inthe box. next time you go out, you have it all right there and can pick +choose what you need and what you don’t. this is especially helpful ifyou switch between purses, or rely on pants with pockets that inevitablyhave to go in the wash.
- when you use tape, peel + rip off a) slightly more than you need andb) before you start taping things.
- keep multiple journals, and keep them in one spot.
- ideas for journals:
- journal to carry with you and write down stuff you have toremember to put in your other journals (very meta, i know)
- book of every compliment you’ve received, or any positivethoughts you have
- journal to scribble thoughts in when you feel bad. i recommendNOT keeping these pages for long; if you do, you run the risk offeeling sad and looking back on it to make you feel worse.ripping/shredding/burning the pages once you write on them isgreat anger therapy.
- any interesting words/phrases you hear
- something new you learn every day
- things/luxuries you want when you have money; when you’re lowon money, look at it and put symbols next to the ones where youthink “wait, do I still want that? is it worth it?” resist buying thosethings when you do have money.
- if you’re dieting or trying to eat healthy etc etc etc etc forwhatever reason: if you struggle with giving in to cravings, drink 1small-ish cup (not one measured cup, like one tall glass) of waterbefore eating anything. it’s not starving yourself, it’s just that sometimesyour body is more thirsty than it is hungry, which causes cravings.. ithydrates you and when you’re done, you’re less likely to still wantwhatever junk food it is. supposedly it takes 20min to get past a craving- use that information carefully. don’t chug!!
- also if you’re trying to drink more water, keep a stationary cup ofwater wherever you sit normally (desk, bed, by the couch, etc.) or carryaround a full water bottle at all times. when you sit down there, fill upthe cup of water. you’re more likely to drink the water now that it’s justavailable right there, like wow you don’t even have to get up oranything!! magic.
- if you use the same water bottle most of the time, use a differentone when you’re sick. I can’t stress this enough. as soon as you find outyou’re sick, wash your water bottle as thoroughly as you can and stopusing it until you’re sure you’re better. use a different cup (preferablydisposable) whenever you drink, or switch straws every time. if youcontinue using the same “healthy” water bottle, you will keep puttingyour mouth on the sick germs, and they will linger there while you aresick and once you are well again, which makes it harder for your bodyto fight them. (this is a very generalized idea of how germs work;basically it’s not a good idea to keep putting your mouth on infectedspit.)
- if you can’t find the time to go outside/get some fresh iar/sunlight,decrease the amount of time the whole “going outside” process takesby making an “outdoors” bag. mine is a picnic blanket that zips up into apurse, that I can then shove stuff in. I keep a pair of sunglasses, a bookI’m reading, a small bottle of bug spray, and a long-lasting snack(granola). when I feel like going outside I can literally just put on myshoes, grab the bag, and walk out the door. I can go for a walk or readin the grass or do literally anything without worrying I might needsomething that I left at home.
- if you’re trying to improve your handwriting, place small grid paperbehind everything you’re writing on. you should end up improvingwithout noticing, but if not, make an effort to line up your letters with thegrid. pretty soon it’ll be come habit.
- when you’re making hot cocoa, put whipped cream on it.
- if you’re messy/disorganized, i have a much more detailed postabout fixing that here.
- if you use a personal computer for school/work, make aseparate “professional” user account. I listed this on my organizationpost but this was the one that helped people the most/they hadn’t heardof, and I don’t expect all y’all to read through that whole thing.
- how it works is: use the admin account for slacking off. the useraccount should be for work/school only. on the admin accountyou can set restrictions for the user account, such as bedtimes(so you have a deadline!) and website restrictions (so you don’tspend all your studying time on tumblr). also if you ever have todo a presentation or something, you’ll never accidentally open upan embarrassing email.
- if you have a small rodent for a pet, i have a trick for filling up waterbottles. you probably have one of these little fuckers for a water bottle,or something similar, yes? mine are super tiny, and if yours are too, then you know the trouble it is to unlatch it and make a trip to thekitchen sink 3x a day. to fix this, i keep a large gatorade water bottle bytheir cage. now all it takes is unscrewing the cap, one squirt into eachbottle, and they’re good to go! the water in the gatorade bottle laststhem about a week, so i refill it on the weekends.
- if you have a stuffy nose/sinus issues, there are two things youshould do:
- steam it out. take a hot shower or run hot water while you sit inthe bathroom doing whatever. the bad part of this is that you’restuck in the bathroom where probably the only place to sit is thetoilet and if you’re sick you probably have aches and it’suncomfortable and you can’t really read a book because steammight damage it and ughhhh.
- idk about you but my mom always made me rub vicks vaporub onmy chest. this isn’t product placement sorry, I’m sure there are offbrands that work just as well. anyhow, it’s got this pungent mintysmell that clears your nose right up. that being said, it’s this nastygel you put on your chest (so it’s below your nose and youbreathe it) that feels weird and just ugh sometimes I can’t standit.
- however! you can combine these two tips into a shining perfectsolution:
- boil water.
- pour boiling water in a bowl.
- take a spoonful of the gel and put it in the bowl.
- stir it up or leave it floating, doesn’t matter.
- sit with the bowl by your face or in your lap, intentionallybreathing it in every once in a while.
- this lets you sit anywhere you want and do whatever youwant without worrying about paper/electronics gettingsteamy.
- this also lets you just dump it out when you’re done and notworry about washing that gel off your skin!!
- if your phone is whiny about storage space, transfer everythingonto your computer periodically. photos take up a lot of room, but mostof them you can’t delete because they have sentimental value. but thinkabout it. it’s not like you need absolutely every photo from your lastvacation on your phone at all times.
- unfortunately, computers have a storage limit too. to conquerthis, get an external storage unit or a USB drive. I believe thereare websites that let you store photos as well, but I haven’t usedthese so I wouldn’t know what to recommend. transfer yourphotos from your phone onto your computer (hopefully it hasenough space to hold them temporarily, you just don’t want tokeep them there in case you don’t have room for somethingelse). then just transfer the photos to the flash drive and voila!label it and put it in a box for whenever you need it.
- if you want to save even more space, run through your photosbefore transferring them. once you get in the habit of transferringthem, you won’t have hundreds of photos to run through so itwon’t be such a hassle. I myself am that shitty friend who sendsterrible memes in every chat so I ask myself, “do I really need thisphoto of a snail wearing sunglasses?” the answer is yes. delete itanyways.
- if someone is nice to you or offers help, write their name down. Iuse this especially with online friends, not so much with people I know inreal life because relationships in real life fluctuate so much that theirsupport isn’t necessarily a constant, stable thing. if you feel sad, remember that these people have reached out to you in the past andprobably will be happy to again. don’t expect much from them so theywon’t disappoint you, but a simple “hey, I remember you offering help awhile back and I’m wondering if that offer is still open,” is enough to geta conversation started and make you feel that you’re not a bother.

So when I return to school I will be doing an french speaking exam forone of my controlled assessments and today I have been attempting tolearn/memorise the 6 paragraphs for it.
