I have seen a lot of posts on here talking about individual extensions for chrome to help people, but I haven’t seen a place where they’re compiled together. So here you are! (If you find anymore, let me know!)
edit: ublock, stylish with lowercase text theme, and No more Tumblr players was added, other extensions masterposts section added, no caps was removed
font/text
- no caps - Makes everything lower case (found to contain malware)
- Stylish: download different themes that can help with accessibility (lowercase text theme can be found here, works like no caps)
- Open Dyslexic: changes the font to Open Dyslexic and makes it larger. Personal favourite.
- Dyslexie: changes the font to dyslexie and allows change to font size and colour (blue). Can be turned off. (Doesn’t seem to work on facebook)
- Font Changer: Allows you to change the font on specific website or on everything using a Google Font. I believe you can also upload your own, if there’s a specific font you need.
- BeeLine Reader: Uses a gradient so your eye follows along one line to the next
- Color Overlay - Irlen Filter for Chromebook: Puts a coloured overlay over the screen. can choose colour and opacity.
- Sunglasses: Tints the screen grey to reduce contrast
- Desaturate: Removes all colour and makes everything a greyscale
- High Contrast: Change contrast or invert colour scheme
- Deluminate: Similar to High Contrast, but tries to keep photos in tact
- G.lux: Makes the colour of the display change depending on the time of day (also cuts down on blue light so it’s easier to fall asleep)
- Readability: Can change things such as margins, colours, etc… as well as reduce visual business
- Ad Block Plus: blocks ads. What more needs to be said?
- µblock: Similar to Ad Block, but it uses less memory and CPU and doesn’t allow sponsored ads
- FlashControl: Stops flash animations running by themselves
- Hide GIFS: Allows you to keep GIFS from displaying
- Text Mode: Loads pages in black/white, covers images, with text only.
- No more tumblr players: disables audio plays on blogs when you’re on them (aka no more autoplay audio)
- SpeakIt!: Reads small section of highlighted text aloud
- Chrome Speak: Reads small section of highlighted text aloud
- Announcify: Reads full web pages. Warning: may stop in the middle of text or not read for the full thing.
Learning + Studying
- Duolingo (learn languages)
- Khan Academy (clear and thorough tutorials)
- TED (fascinating talks about almost everything. you learn awesome things as well as how to better your presentation skills if you’d like to imitate the styles of some speakers!)

- Periodic Table (colorful and interactive and has fun facts about the elements!

- Microsoft One Note

- if you’re stressed out in a crowd, sing to yourself quietly. the familiarity of the song is comforting; the action of singing will help distract you. singing will help keep you anchored to yourself in chaotic situations.
- you could also use a visual anchor throughout the day to keep you grounded, such as looking up at the clouds or even out of the window if you’re inside all day.
- similarly, try doing an action with rhythm, such as clenching your fists and letting them go when you feel overwhelmed- the regularity will help soothe you.
- try breathing techniques, such as these six techniques byTIME magazine.
- remember that alcohol and caffeine can aggravate stress & panic and anxiety problems you might already have had. consider examining your habits and regulating these if you feel like they might be making things worse
- make time in your day for a “worry period”: set a time each day (not just before bed, as it might affect your sleep) to sit down and think about everything that’s worrying you. if you feel overwhelmed during the day, make a note of it and save it for your worry period- then when the time comes, you can sit down and address everything on the list. the rest of the day is a worry-free zone.
- the 2 minute rule- if something that’s bothering you is solvable and will take 2 minutes or less to do, then do it now. it might take an effort to start, but once you’ve finished, you won’t need to worry about it again.
- however, don’t be too hard on yourself if you started a task and you can’t finish it. it’s better to do things incrementally (i.e. bit by bit) than stress yourself out trying to do a huge thing in one go.
- remember that thinking about what could go wrong isn’t going to make the situation any better. life isn’t predictable- just change what you can.
- challenge your thoughts- “is this thought rational? what’s causing it? where’s the solid evidence that this is the truth? how will worrying about this help me in the long run?” and lastly, “how can i look at this in a more positive or optimistic way?”
- it may help to picture yourself floating in water. picture your worries floating past in the water, and as they pass, acknowledge them and then move on. don’t react or judge them- this is also called the movie technique, where you picture your life on a movie screen.
- however, when you feel completely overwhelmed, it might be best just to distract yourself- get out of your own head! don’t think about the big picture. read a book instead, do a household task, have a bath, play with a pet…
- one thing you can have control over is yourself- take a shower if you need one, drink a glass of water, do your hair (even if it’s just a messy bun), have a piece of fruit or try one of the quick recipes above.
- “walk and talk therapy” can be super helpful- if you can find someone to talk to, ask them to take a wander with you. the act of walking can promote deeper and more creative ways of thinking due to the mood-boosting endorphins released when you do any physical exercise- and it’s almost as though you’re becoming physically “unstuck”, walking away from your problems.
- don’t worry too much about what other people think of you- we really don’t notice as much about other people as we think. and even if something does happen, people are sympathetic and will understand. they’ve most likely been through it too!
- try journalling- write down all your negative thoughts. once it’s on the page, it’s left your head. this really works!
- make the phone call. send the text. write the email. don’t stress over what you’re saying, just shia labeouf it.
- you can always try to fit natural mood boosters into your diet- such as nuts, soya products e.g. milk and yogurt, dark green leafy veg, dark orange vegetables, broth/ soups, legumes, citrus, wheatgerm, tart cherries, and berries. bananas are also an all-round super food, and while it’s been disproved that they can flat-out cure things like depression, they’re definitely recommended as a natural sugar, and good for energy.
- it’s always darkest just before dawn.
- i am the rock that the sea breaks against.
- may i be happy, healthy, and free from pain.
- i’ve conquered this before and i’ll do it again.
- i am strong. i am worthy. i am enough.
- i allow and i trust.
- it’s never too late to start my day over.
- tomorrow is another day. (margaret mitchell)
- feel the fear and do it anyway. (susan jeffers)
- action conquers fear. (peter nivio zarlenga)
- in the world through which i travel, i am endlessly creating myself. (franz fanon)
- excellence does not require perfection. (henry james)
- it takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. (e.e. cummings)
- our greatest glory is not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.(confucius)

Studying with Mental Illness
- Take things slowly. Don’t be afraid to take a week doing one assignment. Making sure that you can focus on assignments can be draining so breaking them down day by day can truly help you. Make a task list with each portion of an assignment mapped out so that you can see exactly what you need to do. I know that i get overwhelmed very easily and seeing smaller things is less daunting then having a list full of HUGE things like research papers and midterms. Seeing it as “write paragraph one” or “review unit one vocab” makes everything less scary.
- Nothing has to be pretty. Notes don’t, papers don’t have to be perfect, study guides don’t need to be colorful and cute. What really matters is getting things done. My mom always tells me “even an F is better than a zero” which is so true. Turning things in late is not shameful because you are still turning it in. You still did it and that is something to be proud of.
- Study somewhere other than your room or your house. Make sure there are people there. Surrounding yourself with others will allow you to feel less isolated and sometimes more motivated to do things. You can’t take naps when you’re at a Panera or Starbucks either. People can be motivating, they can remind you that you are not alone, they can hold you accountable for what you have to do. Get out of your bed where you can sit and stare at the wall and go to a coffee shop or the library where other people are doing work. This always helps me get on track.
- Study in short bursts. Don’t wear yourself out with work. Find out when your concentration peaks and go with that. I usually work the best around 2pm so I have to make sure that I have eaten and showered before then so that I can capture that time to focus on my studies.
- Don’t beat yourself up. Studying just takes a lot more effort other days when depression hits you the worst. There might be days when you can barely get yourself out of bed but know that you do have the ability to succeed and that depression just has to suck sometimes.
- Get yourself out of bed. Shower. Change your clothes. Read a single page. Look at only one thing you have to do so you aren’t overwhelmed. That is something to be proud of and know that I am proud of what you did!
- Study in a routine style. Let yourself have a routine that you can fall into. Try pomodoros or study games, Create a routine that you can stick to
- If you don’t feel like doing anything… work for 5 minutes. You may feel more motivated or up, or you will at least be able to say that you have done something.
- HYDRATE. I’m really awful at drinking a lot of water, but it helps so much with both anxiety and depression. Water keeps you moving and awake. SO drink that H2O guys
